Although the silver pour worked, the garnet cracked during the process. Rather than abandon the ring, I removed the damaged stone and replaced it with a handmade copper sphere, soldered securely into the original setting.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe warm copper against the rugged silver gives the ring a beautiful mixed-metal contrast—and a completely different character from the piece I originally imagined.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMade entirely by hand in my Sellicks Beach studio, the irregular texture and organic details are an intentional part of the design.
